Justin Bieber's Spider: Is he ghoulishly going Gaga?

Justin Bieber's been spotted carrying a spider around and rocking a darker look. Is he going goth, or trying to shock a la Lady Gaga?

The pint-sized pop star is growing up fast, as proved by his serious relationship with Selena Gomez. So is the baby-faced "Baby" singer ready to rock an edgier new look, leaving his purple hoodies and pink cardigans behind?

It certainly seemed that way yesterday in LA, as the Biebs was spotted sporting a black T-shirt decorated with skulls. He was also solemnly carrying a giant fake spider in his hand.

So was his new creepy-crawly toy going to be used for some kind of prank? After all, Justin does seem to enjoy playing tricks on people -- he once even threw a water balloon at a cop. Or maybe Justin Bieber is being inspired by Lady Gaga's fashion sense -- she used to carry a teacup around as an accessory, so why can't Justin do the same with a giant toy spider?

Or maybe Justin Bieber is trying to look tough after his recent perfume promotion -- it's hard to look very manly while peddling a bottle of sweet-smelling stuff decorated with a giant pink flower, so it would make sense for him to try to regain his masculinity by carrying a giant fake spider around (well, at least it might make sense in his mind).

Then there's always the possibility that he's simply adopted a new goth sense of style to change things up a bit -- is he trying to look more like a death metal rocker? He does have a few tattoos, after all. Will he start growing his hair out really long, dyeing it black, and start singing in a deeper voice? (Puberty is a biatch for boy singers.) Whatever his reason for the skulls and the spider, hopefully Justin Bieber takes this new look and runs with it -- it could be fun to see him morph into the goth male version of Lady Gaga.
