Widely known for his singing and good looks, Justin Bieber
won a Do Something Award on Aug. 14, in Los Angeles at the Do Something Awards.
The singing sensation, who attended sans Selena Gomez, won
his award in the ‘Do Something Music Artist’ category. He was up against Nick
Jonas, Lady Gaga, Adam Lambert, Linkin Park, Will.i.am and the Black Eyed Peas.
The 17 year-old beat out these philanthropic artists for his work in making
Public Service Announcements for bullying and his ‘don’t text and drive’
campaign. He even gives part of his income to charities, such as ‘Pencils for Promise,’
which was recognized at the awards.
Formerly called the BRICK Awards, the awards have celebrated
people for 17 years and honored them for their work in doing something special
for communities. It especially recognizes young people and encourages others to
follow in the footsteps of the youth who volunteer and help others.
Other award winners included actress Olivia Wilde and soccer
player David Beckham. Glee star, Jane Lynch, hosted the awards for the second
consecutive year.
Each year, five young people are awarded with a $10,000
community grant for the differences they make in communities. One of the five
also receives a grand prize of $100,000 for the charity of their choice.
