Ask Men conducts an annual survey of the dude population on a wide range of topics—everything from the economy to video games—and this year's results confirm something we already suspected: men really hate Justin Bieber.
When asked which male celebrity they're most tired of hearing about, one out of every two respondents said Justin Bieber. The boy wonder got 47 percent of the vote, a landslide, although we wouldn't call it a victory. Men also reported high levels of Lady GaGa fatigue, but only 29 percent of those surveyed selected her as the most annoying female celeb. Bieber also had twice the number of complainants than the second most irritating male celeb, Charlie Sheen (20 percent of the vote).
Anyone who's ever been within a ten-mile radius of Justin Bieber knows that virtually all of his fans consist of hysterically screaming teenager girls, but what is it about baby Biebs that drives men so crazy? Being a normal male myself, I'll attempt to answer the question. Much of it has to do with over exposure. Bieber went from total obscurity to mega celebrity practically overnight, and his face and voice have been all over the media ever since. And because his particular brand of sugary teen pop doesn't appeal to most guys, it's easy to hate.
Humans have a tendency to fear what we don't understand, and too often fear leads to hate. And most dudes just don't understand what it is about this scrawny little Canadian that makes young girls freak out so hard.
Personally, I don't have a problem with JB. He seems like a nice kid with enough talent and work ethic to deserve his success; I'm also fascinated by his journey from Youtube star to superstar. So unlike most of my friends, I don't hate the Biebs. I would never buy one of his songs or go to his concerts, but I'd like to meet him and play some X-Box one day.
But most dudes would rather eat sand than have to listen to his entire album or sit through his 3D movie. And unless he reveals some hitherto unknown talents, that won't change anytime soon.
I'd feel sorry for Justin, but having millions of adoring female fans sounds like one of those good problems.
