Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez are all over the place. It's hard to believe that the joined-at-the-hip teens now known as Jelena were once the most elusive, close-mouthed, and secretive are-they-or-aren't-they? celebrity couple in the world. Good thing all that has changed. Or has it? In a recent E! News interview, Selena talked about her new music video Love You Like a Love Song in particular, her feelings about love in general, and her feelings about Justin Bieber, not so much.
Oddly enough, Gomez maintains that the new love song and video are "all about her past and current flames." The reference to her current flame makes sense. The Teen Dream's presence in the video is obvious--especially in the T.V. screen sequence in which a cleverly disguised Selena Gomez masquerades as her teen idol beau, complete with bowl haircut and sunglasses. But her "past flames?" Does that mean that the song is also replete with hidden references to Nick Jonas and Taylor Lautner? Those romances--especially her affair with Jonas--didn't exactly turn out as Selena expected or hoped. Of course, in her new song, she's simply remembering the good times.
"It's basically talking about how crazy you are about someone whenever it's the beginning," she mused. "It's the honeymoon stage if you will. Because I'm only 18, I think love is supposed to be really fun, ... So that's how I interpret it, at this point in my life. I think it's really fun and you are supposed to enjoy it, kinda dive in."
Fair enough. And Gomez certainly seems to be practicing what she preaches by "diving in" to her ongoing relationship with "current flame," Justin Bieber. Nevertheless, when asked if she loved the Biebs "like a love song," Selena's reply was a blushingly coy:
"Maybe."
Maybe? After all that practically worldwide PDA? Maybe?
While the interviewer took Selena's "maybe" as just a girly speak for "yes," there may be other considerations. Perhaps it was a joke, much like the Biebs' asking her for a date onstage at the MMVAs. Maybe the "maybe" was just an auto-response. After all the world is still full of crazy beliebers. Or perhaps, Selena Gomez isn't as ready to dive in as she thinks--especially after her disastrous romance with Nick Jonas. Admitting feelings to oneself is sometimes far more complicated than making out on the beach.
Oh well, time will tell. Stay tuned. Same Jelena channel.
